Upsides of educational packaging
Do nurses apply dressing more accurately when they use educational instructions located on the outside of dressing packaging? Yes, according to a randomized controlled study1 of 173 clinicians by Dea Kent, MSN, RN, NP-C, CWOCN, manager, Wound Ostomy Clinic, Riverview Hospital, Noblesville, IN. The study found that 68 of 77 (88%) of nurses with educational instructions on the outer package applied products correctly. This compared to none of the 62 nurses in the control group who used traditional packaging. According to Kent, the just-in-time education on packaging improves nurses’ confidence as well. Listen to what she says are the study’s effects on WOC nurses, nurse education and wound healing.
