Usually AAMI Level 1 or 2 gowns are sufficient, with gloves and full mouth, nose and face protection when splash or spray risk is present.
Due to unpredictable fluid risk, AAMI Level 2 or 3 gowns, fluid-resistant face mask with face or eye shield, and thick nitrile gloves are advised.
Blood and body fluid exposure requires fluid-resistant gowns, fluid-resistant mask with face or eye shield, headwear, knee-high footwear and extended cuff gloves.
High fluid risk calls for AAMI Level 3 gown, fluid-resistant face mask with eye protection, as well as thick nitrile gloves when fluid risk is possible.
Added protection from corrosive chemotherapy drugs requires specially tested gowns and gloves, fluid-resistant face masks, and eye and face protection.
Usually less fluid resistance is needed, such as AAMI Level 1 or 2 gowns; procedure or N95 masks; and easy-to-don exam gloves.
