Promoting sustainable practices for a better tomorrow
Climate change is a pressing healthcare issue. The healthcare industry accounts for 4.4% of green house gas emissions, and clinicians are seeing the effects of climate change in the patients they serve. We’re building an environmentally sustainable business by investing in green technologies, conserving natural resources and limiting waste. Our priority is reducing our carbon footprint—and helping our customers do the same.
Investing in solar energy
Solar energy plays a critical role in our carbon reduction strategy. We’ve invested $35M in this renewable power source to date, and boast a solar installation portfolio holding over 59,000 solar panels, generating enough power for 8,000 homes annually.
Adopting green building methods
We’ve leaned into sustainable building initiatives:
- 98% of our distribution buildings in the US are LEED-certified or pending certification
- 10 of our global locations are ISO 14001-ceritifed, of which energy and natural resource conservation play an important role
Making transportation more sustainable
Our private truck fleet uses a computer algorithm to take the most fuel-efficient routes. And, in Southern California, we’re piloting the use of a fully electric semitruck to make deliveries to local health systems.
